Tips For A Chic Rainy Day Outfit

Chic rainy day outfitLiving in Seattle means that I have to accept there’s a lot of rain here. After four years here I feel like I’m mostly used to it but it really can put a damper on my style. Investing in pieces that are waterproof and warm is a necessity to survival. I don’t always want to have to sacrifice style though for dryness so I’ve found a few items that look nice but also keep me dry. First, a raincoat. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten compliments on this bright red Helly Hansen rain coat. I think it’s because most people in Seattle typically wear black and grey coats, so a red one really pops out of the crowd (check out this similar style and color from ASOS). I personally believe if you’re going to be in the rain a majority of the year why not have a little fun with it? Another piece that I’ve invested in outside of my Hunter rain boots is a pair of leather booties that keep my feet dry when it’s raining. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Hunters and there’s a time and place for them, but sometimes they feel so clunky or I have to be more dressed up for work so a pair of booties does the trick. Check out the ones I’m wearing in black here.

New Year 2017

Winter Outfit

Happy New Years and welcome to the first outfit post of 2017! This past year was a crazy one – between buying a house and getting married this year was definitely full of firsts. Though we had several big life events I’m definitely ready for a new year. This coming year is going to be exciting, we are planning a big trip to China for wedding number two and to tour around in Beijing and Shanghai (I’m so excited to blog about those trips!). Along with travels I have big plans for the blog in terms of content and focusing on strategy and growth. 2017 is going to be filled with a lot of hard work and hustle but I’m excited for the opportunities it will bring.

Dressing Up Hunter Boots

How to dress up Hunter Rain Boots

This year I finally broke down and bought a pair of Hunter rain boots. Living in Seattle I don’t know why it took me so long but I’d finally had enough of wet socks. I’m absolutely loving these boots though and they came in especially handy when I had to slosh through the unexpected snow one morning. I decided to go with the matte black style because I felt it was neutral enough to go with a variety of outfits. In this post I’ve paired them with skinny jeans, a blazer and cozy scarf to dress them up a bit more. Even though they do have a higher price tag than I wanted to pay for rain boots they are actually worth it as I’ve gotten a lot of use out them and they’re more flattering looking than most boots. Check out some of my favorite colors of Hunter boots below:

Camel & Black

Camel Coat and Black SweaterRecently, my go-to winter outfit has been this camel waterfall coat, a basic sweater and dark wash jeans. The coat I’m wearing is sold out but here are two similar ones from MANGO that I really like as well here and here. I also am in love with this cream Ralph Lauren wool-cashmere blend wrap coat.

Stripes & Blush Pink

Blush pink coat and striped dress

Hello lovelies! It’s so hard to believe that this week is already Thanksgiving. I’m excited for time time off work to relax and recharge. Sadly, with the wedding earlier this year we’ve practically used up all our PTO so instead of traveling somewhere David and I are staying around Seattle. I am excited as this is our first Thanksgiving in our new home and I’m excited to start decorating for Christmas promptly after Thanksgiving is over. In between the rain showers we ran outside to shoot this wintery look before the the dry weather ended. This pink coat was actually a Christmas present last year but Nordstrom still has it in stock (and on sale) in both blush pink and black (shop the coat here). The black and white striped dress which made its first appearance last year (here) gave a nice contract to the pink coat. Check out this similar Cupcakes and Cashmere one which I’m loving and is also currently on sale (here).
