Finding your signature style it somewhat of a journey. With so many influences in media and online there’s a lot of noise to cut through to define your personal style. Even as a fashion blogger it has taken me quite a while to hone in on my signature style. To help you on your style journey, I’ve outlined five tips that have been helpful for me.

Identify your style inspiration

The first step to defining your signature style is to find your inspiration. Whether it is certain celebrities or fashion bloggers, identifying those that influence your style decisions is a perfect place to start. It doesn’t need to be just one person. In fact, having several that your can draw various aspects of inspiration from is ideal in pinpointing your personal style. A few of my favorites that have influenced my style include Julia from Gal Meets Glam and Jenny from Margo & Me.

Label your style

Once you’ve identified your style influencers now is the time to give a label to your style. Labels like modern, minimalist, classic, bohemian and trendy are just a few that come to mind. The example of Julia and Jenny being two of my style influencers helped me label that I’m drawn towards classic, feminine pieces – both of what have become a staple of my signature style.

Reflect on the last outfit that made you feel great

I truly believe that I feel my best when I’m comfortable with what I’m wearing. Now I don’t mean sweatpants comfortable. I mean confident and comfortable. Think about the last time you left your house thinking “damn. I look good today!” That’s the comfortable I’m talking about. That outfit that makes you feel like you can conquer the world. Take note on what it was you were wearing and why it made you feel good. Those are likely pieces that have already started to define your signature style maybe without you even realizing it.

Audit your closet

Do you have five black and white striped tops? There’s a reason you have too much of a similar item. We tend to purchase things that over and over again that make us feel happy and comfortable. That might be your sweet spot for your signature style and as long as it works with the personal style that you’re defining for yourself then go get it girl! Having recently cleaned out my closet, it was clear my repeat offender are various types of button-down blouses.

Stay true to yourself

These tips are all well and good but at the end it comes down to you. What makes you feel the most confident, beautiful and happy? If you’re like me and are drawn to classic, feminine styles trying to dress in the seasons latest crazy fashion trend is going to look and feel unnatural. Instead, focus on embracing and refining the styles that you already love and before you realize it, you will have nailed your own signature style.
